The ‘Colosseum’ or ‘Coliseum,’ also known as the ‘Flavian Amphitheatre,’ is an oval amphitheater in the center of the city of Rome, Italy. Built of travertine limestone, tuff, and brick-faced concrete, it was the largest amphitheater ever built at the time and held 50,000 spectators. Construction started in around 70-72 AD. It was used for gladiatorial combats, hunts, wild animal fights and larger combats such as mock naval engagements. It stands 40 meters above the Roman Forum.‘Spanish Steps’는 ‘Piazza di Spagna’ 광장에 자리잡고 있다. 가까이 Spain 대사관도 있고 이 광장에는 가장 유명한 ‘Spanish Steps’ 외에도 Fountain, 높은 조각탑, 상가 등으로 언제나 많은 관광객이 찾는 곳이다.‘Spanish Steps’ 아래에 있는 그리 크지 않은 ‘Barcaccia Fountain’ 이다.The ‘Barcaccia Fountain’ …‘Spanish Steps’ 바로 주위에 서울 뒷골목에 있는 것과 같은 군밤 장수가 있어, 맛이 어떨가 하며 사서 먹어 보았다. 정말 꼭 같이 맛이 일품이다. 저녁 전 간식으로 안성맟춤 이었고, 세계 오만 사람들이 다 모이는 이곳에서 맛있는 군밤을 사 먹으 보리라고는 생각도 못 하였다. What a pleasant surprise!‘Spanish Steps’ 앞에서 맛있는 군밤을 먹어며 미소 짓는 아내와 딸 …The Vatican City is an independent state in the city of Rome, Italy. 여기 있는 Museum 들은 Da Vinci 작품들을 포함하여 굴지의 예술품들을 소장하고 있다.‘St. Peter’s Basilica’ dome …Vatican City에 들어 와서 Vatican Museum 으로 가는 길에 …Vatican Museum 안에 들어 오면 수 많은 관광객들이 좁은 통로를 지나며 박물관 예술품들을 감상하며 또 자기 소속 Group leader를 따라 가고 하는 일이 꽤 복잡하고 때론 성가시기도 할 정도이다. 허지만 인류 문화속의 불휴의 명작들을 바로 눈앞에 두고 보는 그 감회가 이루 말로 표현하기가 어렵다.여기서 부터는 ‘Leonardo Da Vinci’의 조각품과 Painting이 전시되어 있다. 위대한 예술품들 앞에 선 자신들의 모습이 저절로 숙연해 진다. 예술품 하나 하나에 대한 더 해박한 지식과 감상의 예술적 능력이 나에게 없음이 안타깝다. ‘Vatican Museum 들을 지나 바로 ‘Sistine Chapel’ (‘시스티나 소성당’) tour가 시작된다.“The Pietá [Pity], one of Michelangelo’s most celebrated works, is a magnificent marble sculpture that artfully captures a poignant biblical scene. Created between 1498 and 1500, this masterpiece represents the body of Jesus on the lap of his mother, Mary, after the Crucifixion.“사도 ‘베드로’ (Apostle Peter)의 무덤에 관한 설명 …‘Sistine Chapel’ 관람을 마치고 밖으로 나오면 로마에서 제일 넓은 ‘St. Peter’s Square’ (‘베드로 광장’)에 발을 딛게 된다.이 광장에서는 교황의 미사 집전이 행해진다. 광장을 매운 수 많은 의자들이 사제와 미사에 참석하는 신도들이 앉는 자리가 된다.다음은 ‘Trevi Fountain’ 구경이다. 이곳은 오래 전 영화 ‘Three Coins in the Fountain’의 Location 으로도 유명하다.딸과 아내가 이 Fountain 에서 거의 모든 사람들이 하듯이 행운의 Coin tossing을 왼쪽 어깨 넘어로 하고 있다.‘Piazza Navona’는 꽤 큰 광장이다. 두개의 Fountain이 있고 …Piazza Navona’ 광장에 한 Street musician 에게 헌금하는 딸의 모습 …광장 한 쪽에 있는 이 Restaurant에 옥외 Table 하나를 차지하면, 음식을 먹으며 이 넓은 광장에 모이는 많은 관광객을 바라보는 즐거움을 가질 수 있다.우리가 들린 Roma의 한 Restaurant 벽에 장식된 옛적 영화 광고가 눈길을 끌었다. The ‘Pantheon’ is a former Roman temple, now a church, in Rome, Italy, on the site of an earlier temple commissioned by Marcus Agrippa during the reign of Augustus (27 BC – 14 AD); the current building was built in 113-125 AD.It is the largest Pantheon is unreinforced concrete dome in the world, the oldest continuously used structure in history, and the best-preserved building of antiquity.서기 120년 경에 세워진 이 장엄한 Building은 그 외부가 조금 낡은 모습을 그데로 보이지만, 그 규모나 예술적 조각 미가 엄청나다. 당시 로마 제국의 문화/문명을 잘 대표하는 위대한 유산의 하나인 것 같다.An opera theater in Rome …Roma를 떠나 Barcelona, Spain 으로 가기 위해 Roma 공항에 나와 배행기를 기다리는 동안에 간식을 이 Café 에서 들었다. 들릴만한 상쾌한 곳이라 여겨졌다. 우리 세 가족 모두 4박 5일의 Roma 여행이 참으로 값지고 보람차게 여겨졌다. 한말로 Roma는 모든 것이 아름다운 ‘예술의 도시’ 라는 느낌이 들었다. 언제 한번 꼭 더 찾고 싶은 곳이다.
